Who needs to take this course?
You need hunter education if you were born after December 31, 1974, unless you can show proof of previously having a valid hunting license in Idaho or another state.
Bowhunter education is available and may be mandatory in certain circumstances.

Registration requirements
Students taking the Idaho Hunter-Ed course may be required to provide:
- Eye color
- Hair color
- Height
- Weight
- Sportsman ID

Course expiration and extensions
The Idaho Hunter-Ed course expires after 90 days.
Extensions are available for the following course option:

Quizzes and final exam
Hunter-Ed: Quizzes include 5-15 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass or they must redo the unit.
The final exam includes 50 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts.
Field day requirements
There is no Field Day requirement for Idaho.
After completing the course
After completing the Idaho course, students can print their Course Completion Certificate.
If a physical card is ordered, it typically arrives in 3-5 weeks.

Military exemptions and benefits
Idaho may offer an exemption to the live-fire exercise for qualifying active, former, or retired members of the U.S. Armed Forces or qualifying law enforcement officers.
To qualify, students may need to provide a signed affidavit showing that they received firearms handling and shooting training through the Armed Forces or as a peace officer.
