Who needs to take this course?
You need hunter education if you are 12 through 15 years old or a first-time hunter.
You need bowhunter education in Virginia if:
- You are hunting on a military base
- You are participating in a county or city hunting program that specifically requires bowhunter education
- You are hunting in another state that requires bowhunter education

Quizzes and final exam
Exam requirements may vary by course option.
Hunter-Ed: Quizzes include 5-15 questions. Students must score 90% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts. There is no final exam.
Ilearntohunt: Quizzes include 5 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass. The final exam includes 50 questions, and students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts.
Field day requirements
There is no Field Day requirement for Virginia.
After completing the course
After completing the Virginia course, students can immediately print their permanent certificate.

Bowhunter education
Bowhunter education may be required in Virginia if the student is hunting on a military base or participating in a county or city hunting program that specifically requires bowhunter education.
Students may also need bowhunter education if they are hunting in another state that requires it.

Military exemptions and benefits
Active-duty military members stationed in Virginia may purchase a resident hunting license.
Resident veterans with a service-connected disability may be eligible for the reduced-fee Resident Annual Hunting License for 70 Percent Partially Disabled Veterans or the free Service-Connected Totally and Permanently Disabled Veterans Resident Lifetime Hunting License.
Non-resident veterans with a service-connected disability may be eligible for reduced-fee nonresident hunting license options.
