You need hunter education if you were born on or after January 1, 1973.
Students under 18 years old must sign up through the youth course site.

Registration requirements
Wisconsin requires a WI DNR Customer ID Number.
Students should enter the WI DNR Number with no dashes.

Course expiration and extensions
Wisconsin hunter education courses expire after 90 days.
Extensions are available for the following course options:

Quizzes and final exam
Exam requirements may vary by course option.
Hunter-Ed: Quizzes include 5 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts. The final exam includes 50 questions, and students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts.
Ilearntohunt: Quizzes include 5-15 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts. The final exam includes 50 questions, and students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts.
Field day requirements
Youth students must complete a Field Day.
The Field Day voucher expires 730 days after course completion.

After completing the course
Students can access their permanent Hunter Education Safety Certificate through the Wisconsin Go Wild website.
The certificate will be available for printing from the WI DNR Student Dashboard one week from the next Monday.

Military exemptions and benefits
Students who are active in or have successfully completed basic training in the U.S. Armed Forces, Reserves, or National Guard do not need a hunting safety course certificate to purchase a license if they carry proof of completed basic training.
