Who needs to take this course?
You need hunter education to purchase a hunting license in West Virginia if you were born on or after January 1, 1975.
West Virginia does not require or offer a state-specific bowhunter education certification course. Students may still take the National Bowhunter Education Certification course if they plan on hunting in a state that requires bowhunter certification.

HunterCourse: Quizzes include 10 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass or they must redo the unit. There is no final exam in the online course because the Hands-On and Written Test is required.
Hunter-Ed: Quizzes include 5-15 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass or they must redo the unit. There is no final exam in the online course because the Hands-On and Written Test is required.
Ilearntohunt: Quizzes include 5-15 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass or they must redo the unit. There is no final exam in the online course because the Hands-On and Written Test is required.
HunterEdCourse: Quizzes include 5 questions. Students must score 70% or higher to pass or they must redo the unit. The final exam includes 50 questions, and students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited retries.
Field day requirements
All students are required to attend the Hands-On and Written Test to complete hunter safety certification.

After completing the course
After completing the online course, students must attend the Hands-On and Written Test to complete their West Virginia hunter safety certification.
Bowhunter education
West Virginia does not require or offer a state-specific bowhunter education certification course.

Military exemptions and benefits
Students should contact the state for information about exemptions from the Hands-On and Written Test.
Active-duty military members who are West Virginia residents are not required to have a hunting license while on leave.
Resident veterans who receive total permanent service-connected disability benefits, former prisoners of war, or resident disabled veterans who qualify under West Virginia Code 17A-10-8 are not required to have a hunting license.
