New Jersey Hunter Course Information

Who needs to take this course?
To purchase a New Jersey hunting license, you need a New Jersey Hunter Education Certificate or a previous year’s hunting license.
All first-time hunters are required to take the course. If a student loses their hunting or trapping license and has never taken a course, they will need to complete hunter education before obtaining a new license.

New Jersey requires a CID before registering for the course.

Course expiration and extensions
The New Jersey HunterCourse does not expire.
Extensions are not available for this course.
Quizzes and final exam
HunterCourse: Quizzes include 10 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited quiz attempts.
The final exam includes 100 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts.
Field day requirements
New Jersey requires a Live Fire Range Session.
After completing the online course, students receive a Study Voucher and must complete a Live Fire Range Session to become certified.

After completing the online course, students must attend a Live Fire Range Session to complete certification.
Students should bring their Study Voucher to the Live Fire Range Session.
Bowhunter education
New Jersey does not offer a state-specific bowhunter education course.

Military exemptions and benefits
Active-duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces, whether New Jersey residents or non-residents, may be entitled to hunt with a resident license.
A previous hunting license or proof of completing the appropriate hunter education course is still required to obtain a hunting license.
Replacement cards
Replacement cards are handled by the state of New Jersey.

If a student lost their voucher, they can sign in to their exam center and print a new copy. They can also contact HunterCourse at 1-866-495-4868 or email info@huntercourse.com to request a copy of their voucher.
