Who needs to take this course?
Anyone under 18 years old must successfully pass a hunter safety course to buy a hunting license in New Mexico.
Bowhunter education is available in New Mexico, but it is not mandatory.

Registration requirements
New Mexico requires a NMDGF Customer ID Number, also known as a CIN, to complete the course.

Course expiration and extensions
New Mexico hunter education courses expire after 90 days.
Extensions are available for the following course options:
- Hunter-Ed
- Ilearntohunt
HunterCourse does not offer extensions.
Quizzes and final exam
Exam requirements may vary by course option.
HunterCourse: Students must score 80% or higher on quizzes or retake the quiz. The final exam includes 60 questions, and students must score 75% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited retries.
Hunter-Ed: Students must score 80% or higher on quizzes or retake the quiz. The final exam includes 60 questions, and students must score 75% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited retries.
Ilearntohunt: Students must score 80% or higher on quizzes or retake the quiz. The final exam includes 60 questions, and students must score 75% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited retries.
Field day requirements
There is no Field Day requirement for New Mexico.
After completing the course
After completing the New Mexico course, students can print instructions to access their printable certificate from the state website.
For HunterCourse, the New Mexico Course Completion Voucher is issued after the student completes the online hunter safety course.
Bowhunter education
Bowhunter education is available in New Mexico, but it is not mandatory.
Military exemptions and benefits
Active-duty military members who are New Mexico residents but stationed elsewhere may be eligible for 50% discounts on licenses, permits, and stamps.
New Mexico residents who were on active duty on or after April 3, 2003, may be eligible for a free Game-Hunting and Fishing License for one year after returning to New Mexico.
Resident veterans who have 100% service-connected disability may be eligible for a free lifetime Game-Hunting and Fishing License.
Resident veterans who do not have 100% disability may be eligible for a reduced-fee Game-Hunting and Fishing License.
