All first-time hunting license buyers, except apprentice license buyers, must successfully complete a hunter education course before purchasing a hunting license.

Registration requirements
Students taking the Ohio course may be required to provide:
- Ethnicity
- Last 4 digits of SSN
- County
Course expiration and extensions
Ohio hunter education courses expire after 90 days.
Extensions are available for the following course options:
- Hunter-Ed
- Ilearntohunt
Quizzes and final exam
Exam requirements may vary by course option.
Hunter-Ed: Quizzes include 5 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited quiz attempts. The final exam includes 80 questions, and students must score 75% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts.
Ilearntohunt: The course includes interactive quizzes. Students must score 80% or higher on the final exam. Students have unlimited attempts.
Field day requirements
There is no Field Day requirement for Ohio.
However, if a student is under 12 years old when they register for the course, they must pass the online course and attend the Home Study Completion Session to complete hunting safety certification.
After completing the course
After completing the Ohio course, students can print their certificate.
Military exemptions and benefits
Active-duty service members serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, while on leave or furlough, are not required to purchase a hunting license, fishing license, Ohio Wetlands Habitat Stamp, or fur taker permit.
Replacement cards
Students can replace a lost or destroyed Hunter Education Certificate by logging back into the course and printing a new one.

Replacement cards for courses with any in-person component or courses completed with a different provider are issued by the state.
