Pennsylvania Hunter Course Information
This article provides course information for Pennsylvania hunters, including who needs to take the course, course cost, registration requirements, expiration, field day requirements, and what happens after completion.
Who needs to take this course?
You need hunter education before you can purchase a Pennsylvania hunting or trapping license if you are a first-time hunter or trapper, regardless of age.
Pennsylvania does not require bowhunter education. Students may still take a bowhunter education course if they plan on bowhunting in states that require certification.

Registration requirements
Pennsylvania requires a CIN.
If students do not already have a CIN from HuntFishPA, they must create a profile to get a CIN and continue registration.

Course expiration and extensions
Pennsylvania hunter education courses expire after 90 days.
Extensions are available for the following course options:

Quizzes and final exam
Exam requirements may vary by course option.
Hunter-Ed: Quizzes include 5-15 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass or they must restudy the chapter. The final exam includes 70 questions, and students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts.
Ilearntohunt: Quizzes include 5 questions. Students must score 60% or higher to pass or they must repeat the quiz. The final exam includes 65 questions, and students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts.
Field day requirements
There is no Field Day requirement for Pennsylvania.
After completing the course
After completing the Pennsylvania course, students can immediately print a temporary certificate.
The temporary certificate is valid for 30 days.
The permanent card is sent through ilostmycard.com and typically arrives in 3-5 weeks.
Age requirements
Hunter-Ed is only available to students 16 years old or older.
Students under 16 years old must take the course in person or complete the Ilearntohunt interactive course online.
Bowhunter education
Pennsylvania does not require bowhunter education.
Students may still take the Pennsylvania bowhunter education course if they plan on bowhunting in states that require certification:

Military exemptions and benefits
Active-duty military members who are Pennsylvania residents but stationed elsewhere may purchase a reduced-fee hunting license while on leave.
Resident veterans who have a service-related disability may be eligible for a free Resident Disabled Veteran Hunting License or a reduced-fee Resident Reduced Disabled Veteran Hunting License.
